Jung's last major work explores the symbolism of alchemy as a map of psychological transformation – the 'conjunction' of opposites such as conscious and unconscious, masculine and feminine, that he saw as the goal of individuation. It completes the trilogy begun in Psychology and Alchemy and Alchemical Studies.
Jung considered it his culminating work, written in his seventies. It is the single most important source for his late thought on the self, and a key text for anyone studying the symbolism of alchemy.
